We loved this authentic Indian food! Service is friendly and price/quality also good. So if you're into something different then seafood when you're in La Rochelle, try this place!

excellent food and service....but the French influence was a little amusing. The chai masala was good but nothing like chai masala, the Samosas were more like pastries (filo dough and pureed filling). Chicken vindaloo was marvelous! Better cuts of meat than most Indian restaurants. Never did figure out if you can eat Indian food with your fingers in France.

southeast Asian food being my favourite, I could have cried when I tasted my first curry from this new restaurant a year ago, it was so bad. My cravings got the better of me again a couple of months ago, and I had another try. This time I was so impressed. I've had veg biryani and lentil dall twice a week since then and it's been perfect. The lamb vindaloo too. Unusually, the rice is included in the price of the main dishes. La rochelle is at last complete

This restaurant is in the small streets of the center in La Rochelle. Crowded street full of restaurants and people. We ate outside in an awesome summer day, food was tasty and completely vegetarian. The service, however, can improve.

My colleague and I stopped in here last week just by chance, the menu looked extensive and interesting. Glad we did.It's a small but elegant dining room with immaculate crisp table clothes and traditional place settings. There were several waitstaff and they were very efficient and knowledgeable about the offerings. Menus were in French and English.I had a scallop curry that was excellent, a nice combination of exotic spices with tender scallops served very hot. I also had an excellent Dahl. The rice accompanying the curries was very tasty.The restaurant was very popular as every table was filled before 20h00 on a very cool and rainy Friday evening.

Fancied an Indian for my birthday had set menu , food was good tasty .cheese nann bread was different. Couldn't fault meal .

We went into the shalimar after being recomended by one of the french bar owners as a good place for an Indian curry. We went in as my wife is vegetarian and they do vegetarian curry so we thought we would give it a try. The staff are friendly and realy helpfull and we didn't have to wait very long for the food. My wifes vegitable curry was realy nice so she said and my chicken jalfreizi was quite nice even though it was not as spicy as I usualy have but the quality of the food was good so if we were in La Rochelle again we would quite happily eat in the shalimar again.
