We were holidaying in St Jean De Luz and visited this little restaurant hidden away slightly off the main drags, we were not disappointed, we shared an Iberico platter to start served on a wooden board, servixe was friendly and efficientm we shared a seafood platter for the main course which consisted of a small piece of Hake and a small piece of red snapper, a beast of a king prawn and a languistine, some mussels and seshells intermingled with potao slices and asparagus spears, all cooked perfectly, ot was presented on a large oval; plate half the platter on one side and half the platter on the other so you both got equal shares. Again service was good, attentive and helpful waiter even to the explanation of the source of the delicious coffee which was sourced from a little coffee roasters in Bayonne.

Make the effort to walk behind the markets for a bit and you'll find this unassuming gem of a restaurant! The menus is uncomplicated, the food cooked well, and supremely tasty.
For 15 euros we had a fatty, tasteless tagine and a scoup of ice cream with a squirt of rasberry sauce. Very poor quality and slow service
Monday's in late September is a hard evening as most restaurants are/were closed. We asked the owner of our hotel for advice, and he booked us a table at Pil-Pil Enea. We were supremely happy with the choice! The restaurant, in typical French style, looks rather shabby from the outside, but in a good way. (Our experience in France has been that the more expensive a restaurant looks, the worse is the food.)Had a local cocktail as an aperitif recommended from the waiter - cherry liquor with cider, apparently typical Basque. Starter was a shared shrimp dish, which was certainly enough for two. Main course was the hake for two - wonderful! One of the best fish meals I've had. Wine was a local wine, a tad expensive but worth it.All-in-all, fantastic and highly recommended!
We called in on a Monday evening and had a table for 2. We ordered a fish meal for 2 and, as it took 20 minutes to prepare from fresh, it was suggested we shared a light cold meat dish to start. This was delicious , as was the main course.A large platter contains fish, squid, shrimp, langoustine, mussels and other fruit of the sea. I asked for a wine to complement the meal and that too was perfect.The service was friendly, fast and helpful.The cheese dessert came with black cherry jelly which was a great addition to the cheese and bread.We had hoped to return the following evening but they're closed on Tuesday/Wednesday evenings.
Pil Pil Enea is located in a quiet street in the centre of St-Jean-de-Luz, largely unfrequented by tourists and fashionistas. A low-key and informal neighbourhood restaurant serving mainly fish and basque dishes, it is satisfying and good value with friendly but unassuming service.
Excellent friendly service and the seafood platter for two was amazing! We had a wonderful time here!
We ventured here on the recommendation of J-J at Les Almadies, on a Monday night. We had the restaurant to ourselves and had the best meal of our holiday here, the set menu for 2, with an exceptional Merlu a l'espanole. Excellent value in such a modest surround. Great local, freshly made food and great value.
