At the end of our boating holiday on the Saone, we wanted a final celebratory meal, and we found it here. A spacious dining room with tiled floors, and just a few tables, not too squeezed together. A warm welcome from the lady proprietor, who offered us a choice of menus written in English or French; having a basic grasp of the language we settled for the French. A 'kir pettillant' was offered as a delightful aperitif, and I began with a piece of chilled trout and salad, while my wife enjoyed some smoked salmon. The proprietor was somewhat surprised when I opted for the 'rognons' as main course; "I didn't think the English liked them" she said. Well I love them, and a generous portion was offered. Wife had a lovely piece of pan fried duck breast, nicely pink. Both of us finished with a delightful home made crime brûlée, and we shared a local Pinot Noir. Service was excellent and friendly, food 'bistro' style, simple and well cooked. Most enjoyable.

A blustery Wednesday found us in the largely uninspiring town of Porte sur Saone, of the three restaurants in town one was closed, the other too far away near the port so our choice was simple.We were rewarded by a charming welcome, very good service and a very acceptable menu du jour meal……tuna stuffed tomatoes with side salad to start, followed by roast pork with rosemary and pommes puree and to finish a choice of deserts but the chocolate mousse won the day……all for 12.50……such a bargain it made an easy decision to splash out on a decent bottle of local pinot noir that was quite excellent.A typically good regional hostellerie with fresh ingredients well prepared.
Een aanrader voor deze streek. Lekker gegeten en gastvrij bedient. De slakken en Magret de canard waren super! We enjoyed our dinner en we could recommend this place to everybody that loves the french kitchen!
La Pomme d'Or, just next to the bridge over the river, serves excellent meals, and as a result may be busy at lunch times, so it is advisable to allow at least 1 hour for a leisurely lunch.We have stopped here twice this summer, and I particularly enjoyed the sandre (a white fish, which I can't translate).

la nourriture était délicieuse! Je recommande particulièrement les escargots aux champignons - mais tout ce que nous avons mangé était vraiment génial. Il convient de mentionner que les propriétaires parlent anglais, ce qui est unique. Nous y étions avec un groupe de 11 personnes (5 enfants) et nous avons été servis. soin et professionnalisme. très bon prix pour la qualité. Je le recommande vraiment.
a short walk from our mooring, that was a great sound. beautiful warm welcome, social distance conscious and great eating. many of the choices for a group of five (including a child) the homemade fois gras was amazing!
