La Dame De Trefle

Stopped here for lunch and sampled the lunch menu. The mussels were very good with a cream sauce. I had a salmon ball with salad and everyone else had the cuscus with chicken. The desert was fruit salad. Bread was served with our meal. Service was a little slow as they were very busy but the waiter was fabulous and very helpful. Would definitely go back.

As we walked along the quay after arriving in La Rochelle and having checked into or hotel we fancied some lunch. La Dame de Trefle is well situated for looking out over Le Vieux Port so we decided to grab a table. Service was rather slow but the staff were very pleasant. We both ordered one of the dishes of the day - moules/frites. I chose moules a la creme and Lynne chose moules mariniere. Both dishes came accompanied with the oddest looking frites that I have ever seen in France! Limp and brown rather than crisp and golden. My moules a la creme were good with several good sized mussels in the sauce. Lynne's moules mariniere were rather bland and contained a large number of very small musssels. We were not supplied with bread which was most unusual.

We had been travelling a good few hours to reach our holiday home rental. We decided to take a walk after unpacking and when we saw the restaurant we originally decided to just have a drink, however there were quite a few diners so we decided on an aperitif followed by our meal.Our friends decided on the chefs special wok, which was a spicy chicken dish with noodles, which they said were delicious . My husband and I both had the chefs special, Dorada with vegetables and we shared a dish of frites and we both also enjoyed our meal.

We were at La Dame De Trefle to celebrate a birthday, but we didn't want a huge meal, as we were eating in the evening. The waitress who spoke no English, was very surprised we only wanted a snack, but the waiter (who did speak English) and we had some French, was understanding and we had a very delicious goats cheese salad.

THough I wasn't hungry, I needed to sit down and take some ibruprofien for my swelling joints after several hours of walking. I needed just a little food to take the medicine As a single late middle aged women, I often get ignored. Here the service was warm, and though he was busy, the waiter took time to suggest what might work best for my mood and picked the wine. The tuna and salad were tasty and the chardonney was lovely. And all witha view of the Old Port. Reasonable lunch prices.

When visiting La ROCHELLE and being on the "Vieux Port" if your intend is to have a drink or a meal is much better to avoid this place as the welcome does not exist and it will takes 15 to 20 minutes to have the waiter coming to your table asking what you wish and so on .... It was a bad experience we will never get there again !!

Here you find a delicious French kitchen with bio products, but the staff is extremely unprofessional and unpolite. This makes a bad moment and is not worthwile. A pitty for the cook!!
